California Classic

Date : 04/29/08

This last weekend we had a great time at the California Classic in Pleasanton, California. This show has gotten so big that they now have two judges and two rings. It makes for a pretty crazy day when you are showing both Suris and Huacayas. Not to mention all of the progeny classes. We took eleven alpacas with us this time and had to grab anyone standing around to help us show in the ring when we had more than one entered. It was great fun and we made lots of new contacts and met up with old friends. Scott and I always bring wine and beer, so it is always a festive party at the end of each day. Our huacaya herdsire MFI Peruvian Providence was a hit at the herdsire auction, with feverish bidding going on. Janice Palmer who owns DAI Peruvian Zoriah, a Providence daughter took a 3rd in a very competitive white juvenile class. Congrats to them both! Scott and I were thrilled to take a 2nd in Breeders Best Three with our three suris. The judge commented you could just curl up in their fleece it was so soft. Our yearling Suri boy El Dorado Windsurfer took a first in his class. He looks a little like a shaggy dog on the outside but the judge was able to get into his fleece to see what he was hiding. We can't wait to shear him and see for ourselves. Our yearling huacaya male, El Dorado Galaxy,a Providence son also took a third in a large white class, we were stoked about that. We placed in both the Get of Sire and Produce of Dam classes which is always a pat on the back and several of our animals placed in their subsequent classes. A big You Rock goes out to Eddie Jones, Janice Palmer and Jeanne Sharky for staying and helping us clean up. We so appreciated that. All in all in was a wonderful show and can't wait until the next one. See you there!
